Love is in the air here in Mountain Maryland, and one thing we know for sure – we LOVE this #MadeInAlleganyCounty collaboration between 1812 Brewery, Allegany County’s sole farm brewery, and Basecamp Coffee Co., Allegany County’s reputable and growing coffee roaster, to create 1812’s Basecamp Coffee Stout.
Cory McCagh, owner of 1812 Brewery, and Hayden Ort-Ulm, owner of Basecamp Coffee Co., first discussed the idea of collaboration on a whim while hanging out over some craft beers in a Downtown Cumberland pub. From there, the idea stuck and the coffee stout was born.
“Coffee beers are trending right now, and I was excited that Cory was receptive to the idea,” says Hayden about the collaboration, “Both of our businesses continue to grow, and this partnership shows the community that up and coming businesses are collaborative and work together.”
Brewed with Basecamp’s Cold Brew, a blend you may recognize from the Cumberland and Frostburg Farmers Markets, this stout is said to have a smooth feel, medium body, and plenty of coffee flavor.
Don’t let us tout the stout, taste for yourself at the Release Party on Friday, February 16, at 1812 Brewery! Tour the taproom and facility, situated on 52-acres of the old Richard Fagan farmland, and fall in love with 1812’s Basecamp Stout. Can’t make the Release Party? The brew will be available at 1812 Brewery throughout February, but don’t wait too long – this is a limited, small batch release!
Just in time for FeBREWary, Maryland’s official month-long celebration of craft beer, the 1812 Basecamp Stout release exhibits a few things we appreciate most here in Allegany County – collaboration and cold, craft brews.
To celebrate, Allegany County’s Mountain Maryland has teamed up with 1812 Brewery and Basecamp Coffee Co. to offer an Instagram Giveaway – your chance to win an 1812 Brewery Growler (with one complimentary fill) and a 12 oz bag of Basecamp Coffee! Allegany County, Maryland, Takes Home Multiple ‘Best of Awards’ from Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine
Local favorites sweep the food and beverage categories.
JANUARY 4, 2018 – CUMBERLAND, MD – Looking for a place to dine? Well, then look no further than your own backyard. Five local area food and beverage establishments took home Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine’s recently announced ‘Best of Awards’ in its January 2018 issue.
This is Blue Ridge Outdoors’ fifth annual Best of Awards, which consisted of an online nomination then polling process. 75 categories are featured within the publication from best local outdoor experiences to events, and from local adventurers to guides/outfitters. But it was the food and beverage category specifically in which Allegany County was well represented, beating out competition from nine states and Washington, D.C.
Best Bar / Pub – Dante’s Bar – Frostburg, Maryland
Best Brewery – 1812 Brewery – Cumberland, Maryland
Best Coffee Shop – Clatter Coffee – Frostburg, Maryland
Best Farm-to-Table Restaurant – SHiFT, Frostburg, Maryland
Best Winery – Toasted Goat – Frostburg, Maryland
Under the Best Taco category, Frostburg’s A Place to Eat earned a finalist award. Only two finalists were listed outside of the best of winner.
“What is impressive outside of the recognition is that many of these establishments are within a year or two of operation,” says Ashli Workman, director of tourism for Allegany County, Maryland. “These awards not only symbolize their impact to our community and to the visitor experience, but the influence food culture has on destination travel.”
The full feature is now available in the January 2018 issue of Blue Ridge Outdoors. The region was also recently featured by Blue Ridge Outdoors as a Top Adventure Town for 2017. A designation the community can tout for the coming year.
