This Summer, visitors to Mountain Maryland are in for a new twist on American history as the Allegany Museum commemorates George Washington’s last visit here with their first annual Whiskey Rebellion Festival.
Set for June 10th and 11th on the traditional Heritage Days Weekend, organizers are planning a Friday night gala event in the museum ball room featuring whiskey tastings, selfies with George Washington, tavern games, cigar tent and music from up and coming bluegrass stars Grand Ole Ditch.
Saturday will feature a morning history symposium in the Museum Ball Room and Rebellion Beer Garden at Canal Place, with Old German beer, micro brew and the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps.
Actors portraying the young George Washington as Commander of troops and reenactments of other scenes from our colonial history will be presented at the Whiskey Rebellion Fest and pop up at other locations during the weekend.
